My Story

The palmetto is the state tree of my home, South Carolina.  As a young child, I used to play among the ruins of Fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island.  The reason this symbol is on the state flag today is because palmettos were used to line the walls of that very fort during the first major naval battle of the Revolutionary War.  While you have to feel a little bad for the soldiers that were tasked with chopping these spongy trees down, the palmettos absorbed the British cannon fire and the Patriots prevailed.  All Americans owe a bit of their independence and freedom to the cannon ball absorbing palmetto.

How free would you feel if you felt like your model airplane were as tough as a palmetto?  Flying without fear of crashing into the ground, into your friend's airplane, or even a brick wall is priceless!  It can free your mind to learn new aerobatics, fly lower, fly in the wind, play games, and fly in the tightest formations possible with your friends.  When a mid-air collision will make you laugh (and is often your goal!) you want as many other pilots in the air simultaneously with you as possible.  This freedom creates an atmosphere of togetherness that is, for me, what the hobby is all about... flying simultaneously with your friends and making new ones.

I fell in love with large events, like Joe Nall, where I could be surrounded by a community of like minded people that I could learn from, be inspired by, and fly with well into the night.  One evening at Nall in the Fall, I saw a group of guys launch their flying wings together.  One of the guys was having a tough time hand launching his plane and crashed it multiple times.  I thought to myself, "his fun is done!" but even after several failed hand launches, he kept picking it up until he was finally airborne.  I had to know what kind of plane could take that kind of abuse and that is when I found out about Crash Test Hobbies.  The kits they make are truly the "Toughest Planes on the Planet" and I fell in love with the freedom of not being scared to crash.  I started building planes for my friends who did not have time to build one themselves and now I'd like to build one for you, too!

At Palmetto Aerial RC, I build super tough combat wings and highly repairable extreme aerobatic EPP profile planes that can be flown day or night.  Every aircraft is a hand built original.  I test fly and tune all of the models that are available as "Ready-and-Maidened" with Spektrum receivers.  This includes mechanically trimming surfaces and tuning multiple gyro modes to give you a turn-key aircraft with that locked in feel, easy hand launches, and the added peace-of-mind of a panic mode for automatically leveling the aircraft with the flip of a switch.  Just ask for a demo flight if you see me at an event and fly before you buy!  I prefer to deliver your plane in person so I can help you with programming your radio and making sure you are satisfied with your purchase, but I am willing to ship them with instructions.  Whether you build your own plane or buy one of mine, you and your buddies need at least one of these aircraft in your hanger.  â€‹â€‹
